Ingredients
  

Crust
  • 14.1 oz refrigerated sugar cookie dough 1 box
Apple Filling
  • 6 medium apples peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup butter melted
Caramel Topping
  • 1 cup caramel bits unwrapped
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. Press sugar cookie dough into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  3. In a large bowl, combine apples, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. Pour melted butter over the apple mixture and toss to coat.
  5. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the sugar cookie dough.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
  7. While the bars are baking, melt caramel bits with milk in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
  8. Drizzle the melted caramel over the baked apple bars.
  9. Let cool completely before cutting into squares and serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use salted caramel bits.
