Method
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
- Press sugar cookie dough into the bottom of the prepared pan.
- In a large bowl, combine apples, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Pour melted butter over the apple mixture and toss to coat.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly over the sugar cookie dough.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
- While the bars are baking, melt caramel bits with milk in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
- Drizzle the melted caramel over the baked apple bars.
- Let cool completely before cutting into squares and serving.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use salted caramel bits.
