  • 2.25 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
Add-ins
  • 2 cups chocolate chips milk, dark, or semi-sweet
  • 1 cup chopped nuts optional, e.g., walnuts or pecans

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl. Set aside.
  3. Cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (3-4 minutes).
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract and mix well.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips (and nuts, if using) until evenly distributed.
  7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are golden brown and centers are soft.
  9. Cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For extra chewy cookies, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking.
