  • 6 Small Apples (Granny Smith or similar) Choose tart apples for best flavor
  • 6 Wooden Sticks For inserting into apples
  • 2 cups Granulated Sugar
  • 0.75 cup Water
  • 0.5 cup Light Corn Syrup
  • 0.25 tsp Salt
  • Gold Luster Dust (food grade) For decoration
  • water or Lemon Extract For mixing luster dust

Method
 

  1. Wash and dry apples. Insert sticks.
  2. Line baking sheet with parchment paper and grease.
  3. Combine sugar, water, corn syrup, and salt in a saucepan.
  4. Cook over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves, then boil without stirring.
  5. Cook to 300°F (149°C) using a candy thermometer.
  6. Remove from heat and dip apples into the hot candy mixture.
  7. Place coated apples on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Cool completely until the candy coating is hard.
  9. Mix gold luster dust with water or lemon extract.
  10. Paint the gold mixture onto the candy apples.
  11. Allow the gold paint to dry completely before packaging or serving. Deliver fresh.

Notes

Be very careful when working with hot sugar as it can cause severe burns. Have all your materials prepped and ready to go before you start cooking the sugar.
