Decorated Chocolate Strawberry Cake

Ingredients
  

Cake
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (15.25 oz)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
Frosting & Decoration
  • 1 container chocolate frosting (16 oz)
  • 1 pound fresh strawberries washed and dried
  • Chocolate shavings or sprinkles optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. Combine cake mix, milk, oil, and eggs. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  3. Pour batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  4. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  5. Frost the top and sides with chocolate frosting.
  6. Wash and dry the strawberries. Hull them if desired. Arrange the strawberries on top of the cake.
  7. Sprinkle with chocolate shavings or sprinkles, if desired. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate frosting and add a layer of chocolate ganache under the strawberries.
