Method
- Prepare cake according to box directions. Let cool completely.
- Frost the cake with chocolate frosting.
- Wash and thoroughly dry the strawberries.
- Melt chocolate chips and shortening in a double boiler or microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
- Dip each strawberry into the melted chocolate, coating about 2/3 of the strawberry.
- Place chocolate-dipped strawberries on parchment paper and let the chocolate set (you can refrigerate to speed this up).
- Arrange chocolate-dipped strawberries on top of the frosted cake.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate chips. You can also add a sprinkle of sea salt on the chocolate-dipped strawberries for a sweet and salty treat.
