Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar firmly packed
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1-3/4 cups flour
  • 1-1/2 cups milk chocolate chips or semi-sweet or dark chocolate—whichever is your favorite, divided

Method

  1. Melt butter and let cool.
  2. Mix butter and sugars, then add egg and vanilla.
  3. Whisk in dry ingredients, then stir in flour until just combined.
  4. Fold in 1-1/4 cups chocolate chips, divide dough, and chill for 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat oven to 325°F and line a sheet pan.
  6. Place dough balls on the sheet pan.
  7. Bake 13-18 minutes.
  8. Press remaining chocolate chips on top, cool, and transfer to a cooling rack.

Notes

Chilling the dough is crucial for preventing the cookies from spreading too thin during baking.
